Amber's 24th Birthday

My lovely daughter turned 24 this month. She's such a mature woman, and beautiful, too. I had the grandkids 4 days and nights. They were very glad to see their mommy. Luke wouldn't let go of her.

Knitting in the round

I found these neat knitting circles at WalMart on our Valentine's Day trip. Josiah and I set to making toboggans. He finished his in short order and gave it to a friend for V-Day. I got this far and got busy with other things. I'll try to post a picture of the finished product when I'm done.

Valentines Day

We took some balloons, flowers, and goodies to Mommo on Valentine's Day.

Party pictures

Other people at the party ate plenty of cake and ice cream.

Josi's 13th

Josiah has reached the long-coveted age of 13--teenagerhood!
He's expressing his personality in various independent ways. But he still has to have candles and balloons at his birthday party (even though he brought a girl with him).

Kylie the Little Princess

Kylie wore a princess-style dress with a black satin bodice. The skirt was a white see-through chiffon embroidered with black roses and lined with a white satin. A red satin sash adorned the waist, and a silver necklace added to the charm. Her hair was drawn up in a partial pony tail and held with a white covered elastic band. She graced the room with her poise and dexterity, only giving in to childish glee to rip open numerous packages and help bang on Luke's drum. Oh, and she also had to chase him crawling through the tunnel Mawmaw got them.

Luke the Drummer Boy

Granny and Pap added musical instruments to
the barrage of noisy toys the kids received for
Christmas. Luke went to work adding decibels.

Favorite quotes from Radical Christian Unschoolers discussion board

Children, like adults, feel most like cooperating with those who treat them with
kindness, respect, understanding, and dignity.

Try to make your choices and set your limits based on the unique
circumstances and qualities of your own family, not on the ideology of
what "defines" unschooling.

~Cheryl

Funny how, even as an adult, the school system inspires, practically
demands, dishonesty in order to combat its absurdly illogical control
tactics.

~Cheryl

Here is a neat story to tell the kids while carving a
pumpkin.

A woman was asked by a friend, "What is it like to be
a Christian?" The woman replied, "It is like being a
pumpkin. God picks you from the patch, brings you in,
and washes all the dirt off of you. Then He cuts off
the top and scoops out all the yucky stuff. He removes
the seeds of doubt, hate, and greed. Then He carves
you a new smiling face and puts His light inside of
you to shine for all the world to see."

Peaceful familes

Here's the original post on the yahoo groups radical christian unschoolers discussion board:

I would like to respond to the parents of the angry and fearful ones.

My husband and I are Health Ministers with Hallelujah Acres.

I have a 12 year old son. I have discovered that diet greatly affects one's peace of mind.

The crunchier, the better. Try giving your children lots of raw fruit if they won't eat raw vegetables.

Avoiding sugar, caffeine, and white flour--not to mention artificial sweeteners, flavors, colors, and preservatives--contributes to a peaceful attitude.

Also, I'm sure getting to the bottom of the anger and fear is important.

What are they angry about? What are they fearful about?

Usually, love will conquer all. A loving attitude from the parent can solve most problems. Make sure all your actions and reactions are inspired by love.
